Been a while, highlights:

Ice storm in February had me without power for over a week. My friends Ross and Heather, who live in Cape, graciously let me stay in their guest room for the duration. I was without internet/cable for over a month. I ended up upgrading my dinky Razor for a Blackberry Bold to stay connected, which I love and am using to write this.

Moved to Cape (~30K) from Dexter (~3K) in March. Joined the best gym ever. life is good. Live farther from work, but carpool now. Getting really good at sleeping on the way.

Went to Disney World for the first time in April. I regressed to a little kid and enjoyed the heck out of Epcot.

Nestle has been in the process of rolling out a new world-wide focus on lean/CI principles. I'm in the first wave of US Purina employees to get Green Belt training. Pretty exciting.

I went to Memphis in May with Jenni. I feared for my life at least twice, attracted some Grade A creepers, pulld my arm rocking out too hard, and generally had a great time.
For Memorial Day weekend I went camping near Chattanooga with my Cape friends Laura, Ross, Heather, and their kids. Gorged ourselves on marshmallows. I got to do a tandem hanggliding flight up to 2000' barefoot. I'll never forget seeing my shadow on the clouds below me.

I love my Prius. I love the built-in GPS and Bluetooth phone connection. I love the key-less entry and push-button start and leather seats. I love how it accelerates and handles and brakes on a dime. I love how its shape is easy for me to spot in parking lots around here. I love it every time I go to the gas pump.
I hate how low the front bumper is.

In addition to the famous "Prius Blind Spot," they're also known for getting a little too friendly with parking blocks, curbs, uneven roads, and sloped driveways.

When I first got it, it had some minuscule cracks in the front bumper. These cracks started to spread after I'd had it a month or so (probably from all those taps to concrete parking blocks). This made the front grill pop partially out of socket and driver tire guard loose it's clip and drag on the ground (which makes a really scary sound).
I just had the dealership pop everything back in place and drill a small hole at the end of the cracks so they wouldn't spread and zip-tie it together to put off replacing the bumper. It wasn't super noticeable (probably because it so low to the ground) and I kind of thought the subtle franken-car look added character.

Then there was the big ice storm a month ago, where I was driving in lots of high snow and mud and uneven surfaces. Somehow, somewhere a chunk of front bumper on the lower driver side caught on something and partially pulled free. I lined the chunk back up and...well, duct taped it from the inside to keep it from falling off.

Yesterday, I was driving home from work with one of my car pool buddies and fellow management trainee, Jeff, when I suddenly hear an awful noise as I am decelerating. At first I thought it reminded me of "flat tire noise" and I pulled over while muttering a string of less than lady-like words. The front guard had popped its fastenings and was dragging on the road. I tried to tuck it back up in there, but it wouldn't stay. I didn't have any rope or bungees in my car. After a quick search, however, I found a stopwatch that had a neck cord just as Jeff was about to offer up his shoe laces. It was a very MacGyver like moment as he tied my car back together.
As we drove off I commented on how classy it was that I drive a loaded sleek hybrid machine that has a front bumber held together with zip ties, duct tape, and stop watch cord. That's when Jeff hearkened back to a previous discussion on how my car doesn't have a name and dubbed my beauty "Ghetto FabPrius."
...like ghetto fabulous...get it? GET IT???
Victory.

At the body shop, they fastened her back up with more zip-ties and gave me a $1400+ estimate to replace my front bumper and guards. Gah!
It's strictly cosmetic damage and they say I should be able to drive around like this just fine until the next incident. Now, I'm definitely more interested in the car's point-A-to-B capabilities than appearance, but it's starting to get ridiculous. I guess I'll think it over this weekend.

And now a noble thought on Dental X-Rays from SteapandCheap's The Daily Dose:
"I know they say it's a small amount of radiation, but I still think that blasting radioactivity into your skull at any level is likely a bad idea. I need to save those brain cells so I have something to kill with plastic-bottle whiskey."

<lj:music>Katy Perry - If You Can Afford Me</lj:music>

For the last four months I've been working 2nd shift as part of my training program at work. I've been working a lot of overtime with 12 hour shifts and weekends. Seriously, a lot.
Life has consisted largely of working, sleeping, and sneaking in gym visits. I should be back on first shift in a couple of weeks, though.
Last month I didn't turn on my tv once.
Apparently my dvd player decided to give up the ghost during that time, so I have to watch my new tv show addiction, Bones, on my wee laptop screen until I decide what to replace it with (I'm thinking I might as well upgrade to a blu ray...once I get over the sticker shock).
Speaking of my tv show addictions...Dexter married his sister?

I have my first iPod, which I use to listen to The Killers, Coldplay, and other bands you like. I'm not sure why I didn't have one before. It's awesome.

Over the last 9 months I've lost about 20 pounds, which I had gained over the previous year and a half. I think I've hit a bit of a plateau as of late, but I'm pretty proud that I've been keeping up with my regular gym visits. I definitely feel a lot healthier and stronger...and feistier. Also, I'm about 50 times more likely to spontaneously start dancing in front my my full-length mirror (which is kind of saying something).

Tyler recently moved to Florida to work for his dream company - Lockheed Martin. Yes, the Lockheed Martin.
He'll work 9 hour days and gets every other Friday off. They give him a gym allowance (my HR manager still hasn't agreed with my great plan to build a huge gym right on plant property...ha). He makes 10k more than his old job and might get a security clearance (!!!!). It's 80 degrees there and the streets are lined with palm trees (it' 30-40 degree here). In short, he's got the world at his feet and I couldn't possibly be happier for him.
We've been dating three years as of mid-December. Wo-ah.

Northwest Arkansas to Southeast Missouri.
Mom and dad drove up with me three weekends ago. It was during an ugly ice storm in the area and we took the first house we looked at (which also had the first landlords that ansered the phone on that Saturday), where dad managed to use his magic eyebrow to change the "no pets" policy. I packed Sunday (with Mom's help), Monday (with Dad), Tuesday (with Jenni) and Wednesday and we loaded the uhaul Wednesday night. Dad called in a bunch of his big strong SCA friends to help - they were a godsend. Thursday morning Natalia made Dad and I a great breakfast (I slept in their guest room that night) and we headed up to Missouri. Dad in the uhaul, me in the prius with the dog, Archie. Because Archie required frequent stops, I arrived in town about 5 minutes after dad (he was still backing the truck into the driveway). We got there a little too late in the day to get the water turned on that day, but set it up to be turned on the next day. Dad took me to the supercenter and we loaded up on enough food and supplies to last me until I get my relocation money from the company (which, haha, I still haven't gotten, I just finished jumping through the hoops today and it should be direct deposited shortly)...food that can be made without the use of a microwave.
Dad really helped me get set up in town, he even got the cable company to come out that Saturday to set up my cable and network. Let me repeat that, the cable company came out on a Saturday, the very next day, for no additional charge...after we were told they were closed on weekends and couldn't get someone out until late the next week. The cable guy was very polite the next day, but you could tell he was confused. The only thing dad couldn't help me on was the DMV, they are impervious to smoosing, dad eyebrows, sunshine, and puppies.
Tyler came up Saturday evening. He managed to shave half an hour off his time and arrived in only 5.5 hours! Dad and I had unloaded as much of the light stuff as we could, and Tyler helped unload everything else. It was really great being seen off on my big move by my two favorite guys.
I'm moving to Missouri next weekend. My new home will be a bit over six hours away and a tenth of the population of here.
The new job is very much worth this move.
Chances are that I'll be relocating again in the next 2 years or so, so I decided to rent a house instead of buying one. I got a cute little 2 bedroom place that should be perfect for me.
We also talked them into letting me bring a pet! Originally, I wanted to start my own doggy family and adopt one of the dogs I've been eyeing on petfinder, but the only way we convinced them to go back on their no pet policy was if I brought one of dad's older dogs (i.e., already house trained, done teething, etc). End result is a furry companion on my big adventure, so all is well.

I just got back from the trip to find the place and put down a deposit. Next weekend when I go up I won't be coming back. Weird

I melted Josh and Laura's toaster. When I say melted I don't mean it heated up a bit and the sleek form got droopy, I mean rivers of plastic ran down while flames licked it's body. I mean the apartment was filled with black smoke and all the fire alarms were blaring (on a side note, I really don't think we need one every 5 feet). Fortunately I have a humongous stock pot, which I employed to damn near flood the kitchen with fire-extinguishing water (and make everything else soggy).
We have a cool new toaster oven now.

I got season 3 of House on DVD last week. <3<3<3

Tyler goes to Daylight Donuts most Sunday mornings and I join him around 75% of the time. Good times, good donuts, really bad toupee.
On my way back to my apartment around 10:30am I got a flat tire. Tyler and Zack came to the rescue like the heroes of old. Needless to say, it was hot and sweaty and extremely unpleasant to be doing manual labor.
When I got to my spare (no small task considering how full my trunk was), we found that the tread was completely shredded and scary looking. Awesome.
When they got the tire off, the tear in the side of the tire was a bit too large to risk fix-a-flat to get to Wal-Mart. Sweet.
Neither Tyler's nor Zack's spare would fit my car, although I kind of think it was way above and beyond of them to offer. We ended up just taking the dingity dangity tire to Wal-Mart and went to Popeye's Chicken with some fine folks while we waited (while un-showered, sweaty and slightly covered in car grease - yikes!).
Around 2:30 the (amazingly, incredibly awesome) guys finally got my car squared away. I drove the rest of the way down the street to my lovely shower while listening to Petty's Free Falling. It took the edge off.

I missed sannask's birthday lunch in the midst of this drama.
Cleaning room. Oh my goodness, am I cleaning my room.
I've mostly finished the dragging heavy objects around the room stage and full force in the organization and trashing useless stuff stage. I never did get fully moved in when I got here in November, it turns out I have huge amounts of stuff and once I got it all in, I didn't have room to unpack and arrange it. My dresser was sitting unusable in my closet for months because I just couldn't fit it in the room with all the boxes and stuff. Somehow I've managed to change that...I'm not really sure how. I've spent a young fortune (very young ~$40...but, heck, now money's going to be tight) on organizational supplies like hooks and fancy multi-hangers and shoe racks...and a brand new cushy pillow because I've never owned a never-been-used-only-mine pillow and it was on sale.
I was reading a forum thread about insurmountable messes and someone gave the advice to just clean for 15 minutes a day. Suddenly it clicked, because 15 minute time increments seem doable where just "clean my room" seemed impossibly and unending. Of course, once I started I spent more than 15 minutes at a time...
I keep finding random stuff...apparently I have gone out to buy band aids and ibuprofen three times because I thought I didn't have any.

Sometimes my feet twitch randomly. I first noticed the night after I was struck by lightening...it could have happened before, but I just didn't pay attention. I've been noticing it more ever since I saw Dr. House diagnose a kid with some HORRIBLY BRAIN DYING DEATH DISEASE based on a casually observed involuntary foot twitch.

Google Talk interchange of the night -
Laura: what was the name of that one car that they moved to a mexican market but didn't change the name of
Alex: nova
Laura: : D
yay!
Alex: No Va...doesn't go
Laura: I like to think that some guy was retireing and letting that slip was his way of sticking it to the man

Busy weekend ahead, I even get Friday off work for it. It's a shame I'm going to completely miss the APO weekend, but the universe has conspired to keep me busy. I'm pretty geeked about Weird Al on Friday...I mean, I grew up on that stuff (also, he looks younger now than he did when I was first introduced...the evil powers of 80's style glasses). I'm very excited for Daniel's wedding on Saturday - yah love! Aaaaaaand I get to attend Sanna's bridal shower on Sunday.
I haven't been home much lately, still catching up on my journal reading...uf, I'm so behind.

Amazing weekend. I did have a few surreal moments where I realized that I don't actually have to go any where or do anything for two whole days. Now that I'm done with Red Lobster, I have real weekends, I have a semi-normal schedule that actually allows me to be more social than I have been able to be in a while. It's a good feeling.

Friday I had sushi night over at Jenni's with her and my lovely roommates Josh and Laura. I wasn't really feeling the sushi for some reason, but everyone else had yummy sensations. Then we went out to the Piano bar and stayed from when they started playing until they stopped. I bought two rounds of shots (one for my table and one for the piano players) and a few different mixed drinks. We sang some great songs, I got to go on stage for one of the skits, and several of the piano players were calling me out by name...it was very fun (but I spent too much money). I've always wanted to be a regular some place...it's my third time at the Piano Bar in 2 weeks, but I was DD the other two times (first with just Jenni, second with Tyler and Melissa).
Let me tell you, I love watching musicians...it's just really something I enjoy being around. Tyler is slowly learning the harmonica and...It. Is. Hot. He started with a pro-harp in C and I got him another in G so he could play more bluesy stuff (yeah, harmonicas come in several different keys, I never knew!). He's learning Piano Man and a couple of Tom Petty songs by ear...and it's just...wow.

Anyway, I get a call around 9:30 waking me up the next morning and it's Tyler telling me I have an hour and a half to get ready to go camping with everyone. It was supposed to be a two day camping weekend, but the 8 other people had spent the previous night cooking out and crashing at Erica's place and now I was joining them to go out for more shenanigans at Beaver Lake. It was amazing good times.
Tyler caught an incredibly large bass (!!!) with his ultra light. We made delicious hobo meals (ours consisted of kielbasa sausage, onions, potatoes, carrots, and red and green peppers seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic salt then wrapped in tin foil and cooked over the fire) and ate them with toothpicks because we forgot forks. We devoured roasted marshmallows. We were rained on (ha! I was in the tent that leaked less!). There was much swimming and playing and revelry. I was one of 4 people to not jump off the 32 foot cliff into the water (but I did see two random guys strip down and do the jump naked) and one of 2 people not to skinny dip (never been). I was the only one to bring cortizone and bug spray. After we returned to town and showered, we piled into Filipino restaurant and descended upon their buffet. Oh so tasty.

In a little under two weeks, I will be attending a Weird Al concert with my dad and step mom on the 13th followed by attending Daniel's wedding on the 14th with Tyler. Woo!
Looking forward to seeing more of people soon!

Put in my two weeks notice at Red Lobster a little over a week and a half ago.
I've worked every single day (sometimes 13+ hours) at one job or the other for around 3-4 weeks now and I won't have another day next nest Saturday. I expect to also miss some weight when delicious, buttery seafood is not dangled in front of my at reasonable prices all the time.
The co-op is going well. I find transportation pretty darn interesting, and to think I thought I was more a manufacturing kind of girl.
I have a space heater at work and I totally abuse it. Apparently, I prefer my feet be completely, unreasonably toasty at all times. In June. Yeah.

How come I never discovered the Lake Fayetteville trail before T? I've been out there three times with either Jenni or Tyler in as many weeks. *ahem* Baby geese.

My phone is dying. Not in the out-of-charge way, but in the buttons-don't-work-anymore way. My phone is darn near impossible to use without the arrow buttons and 9 key. I can use a few shortcut buttons to call my (short and repetitive) recent dialed list and sometimes send some simple text messages. In short, annoying.

The song I am currently listening to is surprisingly lovely and gentle sounding for an anti-love song.

    <lj:music>Paris Hilton - Fighting Over Me</lj:music>

Daddy bought me worms for my upcoming birthday. A full pound of red worms. I am the happiest little princess ever!
He also got me a worm bin to put them (outside on our front deck). In a few days, I'll be a-compostin'. Until I get around to getting a proper kitchen compost pail , I'm collecting food scraps in an old ice bucket I picked up at the Peace At Home Thrift Shop.

I recently started a mini herb garden on our front deck.

It's all planted in organic potting soil (Miracle-Gro and Expert Gardener brands) and recycled plastic containers (that help regulate the watering for novice gardeners like myself).

On April 20th, there was an Earth Day thingy on campus. I got a free "Red Hot Sally" flower and it hung out on my porch pitifully in it's little plastic container shriveling right up. I decided to start that herb garden I'd been contemplating with the yummy smelling lavender and mint plants and it took several days, until April 30th, and trips all over town to track down my preciouses (Home Depot and Lowe's).
This, of course, was not enough once I started (and enjoyed fresh mint in my tea). A week later I spent a couple more days planing and tracking down my next set of conquests (consulting Laura and my dad). On May 1st I got the sweet basil, thyme, and parsleyl at the Springdale Walmart (it has a way better gardening section than either of the Fayetteville super centers) and onion chives at the Harps on Garland.
At this point I had the big planter and the little planter, so clearly I could never be truly satisfied unless I had the medium planter to complete my set. I planned and consulted with Jenni-pooh the day before and fearlessly headed out to the Farmers' Market on May 12th where I found some locally and naturally grown dill and cuban oregano (which I later found out was not an actual oregano :( ...but should work the same for culinary purposes). When going to pick up some lunch at Ozark Natural Foods (where I recently became an owner about a month ago), I found some lavender mint (me oh my I loves me some mint) to finish off my little garden.

Next on my hit list is some durable containers to start collecting recyclables, because the apartment building ain't doing it for us.

I made mostly raw "ice cream" for a treat after my last final. Two frozen bananas (note to self: peel the bananas before freezing...doh), 2 tablespoons vanilla (calls for teaspoons...), fresh mint to taste (optional), and a blender. It was pretty good, I may experiment with it (and other fruits) more. I can't wait until my lavender blooms.
I have 4 peeled bananas in my freezer right now.

To commemorate Paris's upcoming jail sentence, I downloaded her CD. HOTT. Favorite line: "Everytime I turn around the boys fighting over me...Maybe cuz I'm hot to death and I'm so so so sexy." Classic.

    <lj:music>Scissor Sisters - Might Tell You Tonight</lj:music>

I kinda want to get into vermiculture with red worms. I like this expandable worm tower (4th item down). I've been thinking about composting for a while, and this seems like a good alternative for my apartment life (although it will probably suck when I eventually move).
The thing is I don't really have much desire to have apartment plants that would actually benefit from the castings. I'm not terribly interested in decorative plants and I don't cook enough right now to warrant the edible kind. I guess I can see if someone like my dad needed it for his future garden or I could look into tasty plants once I got the compost thing up and running.

I would actually love to cook more, I keep reading all these awesome recipes I can't wait to try. I have a lot of appliances on my to get list: dehydrator (seriously, what happened to my old one?), food processor, high-speed blender, juicer, and crock pot. it’s also probably a little wrong that I have a big ole' rotisserie and a rice cooker and an espresso machine, but not even a hand mixer. We do not have room for these items. Not even a little bit.
I need to start eating healthier and that means eating out less (damn you red lobster and your employee discount). I also want some sort of bento box.

Yes.

Gonna work out with the ladies tonight! <lj:music>Gogol Bordello - Start Wearing Purple</lj:music>

I went to visit my dad after class today. We watched youtube Penn & Teller Bullsh*t episodes and contemplated the recent school shooting. I enjoy listening to my dad talk politics and world events.
I ate dinner with Jenni and had a gross Rum drink that I didn't finish (I'm sure it's fine for people who like copious amounts of rum, but I don't and I had asked for a vodka drink...), yummy sushi and green tea ice cream. Then we went to work out. Booze before workouts? Yes we totally went there.
I undid so much of the work I did last year, but I'm looking forward to moving forward again. I hate cardio, I like weight training, I love the way I feel when I'm done.

Also, a couple weeks ago I hydro-planed on Melmar (going around 15-20 miles an hour...) and almost ran head on into a tree. I tried to break a little as I approached the curve, but the road and tires would have none of it and I pretty much couldn't do anything. Somehow, I managed to slide in between a street sign and a parked car and jumped the curb onto the grass to stop inches from a very large tree. I've been overly cautious in the ran ever since. Boo.

I want to go camping. That would be great.
